Youth Journey Groups

Journey Groups are the small groups created and coordinated from PitStop, our large group meeting.  Journey Groups meet at the end of each PitStop for a discussion time to explore ways to implement what they have learned about God and life with Him.  Journey Groups also meet outside of church for social events, Bible studies, and service projects.  Journey Group should best be understood as a group of students and not a specific event or meeting.  God made us to grow best in community; with fellow believers who can encourage us and whom we can also encourage.  Journey Groups are how we aim to develop this community.

Groups are created based on age and gender. For example, a girl in the 11th grade will not be in a group with a 7th grade guy. Most groups do have students with an age range of two years/grades. Students do not “graduate” into a new group each year. This enables students to bond and form closer friendships over the course of several years.

Young people need guidance in order to grow in all areas of their lives, including social, spiritual, emotional and physical development. Parents should be the primary facilitator of that growth. The Youth Ministry at North Rock Hill is structured to be a resource to help parents guide teens on their Christian journey. Students connect, grow and build friendships through Journey Groups.

Six building blocks for Journey Groups

  1. They are small groups of students. The small size is important for member participation
  2. They meet in a space that provides a relaxed environment for the group.
  3. They are age and gender specific. This helps the students to better be able to relate to one another.
  4. Members do not “graduate” to another group. To the best of our ability, we try to keep the group together for all seven years they are in the youth ministry, which helps promote group unity and closeness.
  5. Leaders build relationships with members. Through these relationships, the leaders are better able to minister to the group members.
  6. Groups attempt to “put feet on” what we talk about at PitStop. Through the Journey Groups, we work to ensure that what we teach actually connects with the students’ daily lives.
